5 Reasons to Treat Your Water with the Pure Water People

Water isn’t just the wet stuff that come out of the tap. 

 

It’s the most important thing, we use it every day – it sustains life, we use it for hygiene and washing our clothes, and (maybe just as importantly!) we need it to make a nice cuppa! 

 

But with about 70 million people to provide safe water for, and with it being frequently recycled and treated for use, the standard of our water falls far short of ideal. 

 

Tastes and odours from chlorine, impurities (e.g. forever chemicals) and the effects of hard water/limescale, these are all common issues and concerns for UK households. Limescale is an unfortunate consequence of location – the geology of an area determines the hardness of the water that goes into your home. Rainwater picks up calcium and magnesium minerals underground, as it moves through chalk and limestone, and these minerals are what makes water hard, and what causes limescale build up (read our “What is limescale” entry for more on this) Limescale is a nuisance, building up on kettles, taps, shower screens and (bigger appliances too – more on that in a moment). It can ruin kitchen and bathroom fixtures, and takes up your precious time with extra cleaning and descaling, not to mention the cost of descaling and cleaning products! Those cleaning products are also much less effective in with hard water, due to the surfactants (which are there to cause soap lather) reacting with the minerals in hard water, stopping them from doing their job. 

 

Hard water affects everything it touches and costs you money around the home. Alongside the costs of cleaning products and replacing kettles, hard water affects the big stuff too. If it’s building up on your kettle and your taps, it’s building up in your larger appliances too. Boilers, washing machines, radiators, all of these are affected. Not only does this impact wear and tear and increase the chance of needing to make a costly replacement due to breakdown, it also significantly reduces the efficiency of them. Layers of limescale build up inhibit heat flow. Your energy bills can be up to 40% higher simply by virtue of living in a hard water area. 

 

Hard water isn’t just tough on surfaces and appliances, but it’s also unkind to your skin and hair. 

 

The natural oils the protect your skin and hair are affected by hard water, and the soap scum the results from hard water reacting with surfactants can also clog pores, stopping your skin from releasing the natural oils that your skin barrier use to protect your and your skin. 

 

Another significant factor is chlorine; chlorine is used in the public water supply to kill bugs and bacteria, but once the water has reached your home that chlorine has done its job. Chlorine also strips the natural oils from your skin, compromising its ability at protect itself. Hard, chlorinated water isn’t ideal to drink. The tastes and odours experienced by many UK residents causes them to look to alternatives.
