AESTHETIC ISSUES
Unwanted discoloration, tastes and odours vary by tap and are influenced by personal preferences. For example, a slight chlorine taste might be preferred by some, while others wouldn't consider drinking it.
Freshpoint filtration will take care of the following aesthetic issues:
Chlorine / CTO (Chlorine Taste and Odour):
by far the most common aesthetic complaint.
It is commonly used by municipalities to disinfect the water supply, often causing poor tasting and smelling water.
Fine sediment / high turbidity water:
suspended particles of dirt in water make water appear cloudy. These particles range from larger pieces to invisible particles that can make water hazy.
Those can build up and eventually clog water-using appliances, such as ice-makers, causing them to break down.
HEALTH ISSUES
The pressence of contaminants in water can lead to adverse health effects. Freshpoint filtration systems are NSF certified to remove below contaminants:
Lead: a heavy metal strongly regulated. Lead poisoning can cause neurological deficiences and birth defects.
Cysts: Giardia, Entameoba and Cryptosporidium are parasites that cause cramps, vomiting and diarrhea. Chlorine will not realiabily kill these organisms as they are encased in a hard, protective shell. Cysts can cause infectious diseases such as typhoid fever or hepatitis.
Atrazine: banned in the EU in 2004, it is still one of the most widely used herbicides in the US and Australian agriculture. Studies suggest it can alter the hormonal system.
Lindane: chemical element used an an agricultural insecticide. If can affect the nervous system, liver and kidneys, and may well be a carcinogen.
VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds): Include components of gasoline, solvents and industrial cleansers which can cause illnesses including liver cancer and leukemia.
